“Every Minute Counts: Understanding North Carolina Attendance Rules.” The school day is 7:50 a.m.–2:35 p.m., with 380 instructional minutes and a 25-minute lunch that does not count as instructional time. Students must attend more than half of the instructional day to be counted present: 191 or more instructional minutes = present; 190 minutes or less = absent. The infographic emphasizes that arrival and checkout times matter, half-day attendance follows the same 51% rule, and families should schedule appointments outside school hours when possible. It concludes, “Every minute matters. More time in class means more opportunities to learn, grow, and succeed.”
